1. CALL TO ORDER
Senate Chair Alex Perlman called the October 25th, 2018 meeting of the Santa Clara
University Student Senate to order at 7:00 pm in the Benson Memorial Center Williman Room.
Senate Chair Alex Perlman invited Sophomore Senator Kyle Andrews to recite the
invocation.
2. ROLL CALL
Pro-Tempore Mary Balestreri took roll at 7:00 pm.
3. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Senate Chair Alex Perlman asked the Senate to consider the agenda for the current meeting.
He requested questions and comments related to the agenda. Hearing none, he asked for a
motion to approve the agenda. The agenda was approved by Raul Orellana and seconded by
At-Large Senator Alejandro Sugerr .
4. APPROVAL OF THE PREVIOUS MINUTES
Senate Chair Alex Perlman asked the Senate to consider the previous meeting minutes and
requested questions and comments related to the minutes. Hearing none, he asked for a
motion to approve the minutes. The minutes were approved by At-large Senator Raul
Orellana and seconded by At-Large Senator Alejandro Sugerr .

Vice President Updates
Vice President Jahwala Johns:
● Retreat Updates

Senate Chair Alex Perlman invited the representatives from IGWE to present their funding
request to the Senate. Their presentation is summarized succinctly below:
● Culture show February 9th, 2019. Estimating 200 attendees
● Total cost $6,424.26 and requesting $3,857.11 from ASG
Senate Chair Alex Perlman Thanked the representatives for their presentation and asked if
there were any questions.
Junior Senator David Warne : Where will you be getting the rest of your funding?
Answer: Our RSO balance, OSL balance, and Member dues.
Sophomore Senator Sahil Sagar : Will you keeping and reusing the costumes you buy.
Answer: Yes.
Senate Chair Alex Perlman thanked the RSO and excused them.
Senate Chair Alex Perlman invited the representatives from the American Society of Civil
Engineers to present their funding request to the Senate. Their presentation is summarized

● Leadership conference in Hawaii
● Total $6,006 and requesting $2,300 (remaining covered by the School of Engineering
and club funds)
Senate Chair Alex Perlman Thanked the representatives for their presentation and asked if
there were any questions.
Junior Senator David Warne : Asked for clarification surrounding percentage requested.
At-Large Senator Rory Pannkuk : We have to abide by bylaws and can only fund up to a certain
percentage in each category. Could you work with the School of Engineering to give you more
funds for travel rather than lodging?
Answer: The school said to propose this method to ASG.
Junior Senator Vidya Pingali: How many members will be attending?
Answer: 6 can attend.
Senate Chair Alex Perlman thanked the RSO and excused them.
Senate Chair Alex Perlman invited the representatives from the Associated General
Contractors to present their funding request to the Senate. Their presentation is summarized
succinctly below:
● Will be attending a convention in Reno, NV.
● Funding for the whole year $13,970 and requesting $2,700 from ASG.
● Getting other funding from donations and the School of Engineering.

Junior Senator David Warne : How many people will attend the convention?
Answer: Each team will have 6 people with 1-2 alternates. We will have a total of 21 people plus
faculty.

Senate Chair Alex Perlman invited the representatives from the College Catholics to present
their funding request to the Senate. Their presentation is summarized succinctly below:
● Funding for SEEK 2019, a conference in January 2019.
● Cap of 12 students
● Total cost $11,878 and requesting $3,112 from ASG.
● Fundraising to make up the difference.

Senior Senator Eoin Lyons : What ideas do you have for fundraising?
Answer: We will work with campus ministry and contact outside donors.
First-year Senator Allie Bare : How did you come up with the prices for lodging and
registration.
Answer: Used the price of the commuter cost to figure out the cost of lodging.
Senate Chair Alex Perlman thanked the RSO and excused them.
Appointees Discussion and Vote
Senate Chair Alex Perlman invited the candidates for First-year Chair, Yash Tanna,
Off-Campus Student Safety Chair, Katya Keklikian, and Judicial Clerk, Maya Kuchan, before the
Senate to introduce themselves and asked if there were any questions for them.
At-large Senator Raul Orellana : Yash, what are some events that you would like to plan as the
First-year Chair?
Yash Tanna: I would like to plan a Dorm vs. Dorm Olympics game.
Sophomore Senator Ciara Moezidis : What prior experience do you have to qualify you for
these jobs?
Maya Kuchan: I was in a sorority and acted as the Panhellenic delegate.
Katya Keklikian: I was in student government in high school and worked in alumni relations. I
have prior experience working closely with both adults and police departments.
Yash Tanna: I was on student government and a community service club.
Hearing no further questions, Senate Chair Alex Perlman asked the candidates to leave the
room. He then opened the floor for questions. Hearing none, Senate Chair Alex Perlman
asked for a motion to vote. Senior Senator Leif Allmeroth motioned to vote and the motion
was seconded by First-year Senator Justin Chan . Sophomore Senator Sahil Sagar motioned to
white ballot and the motion was seconded by Junior Senator Mika Philip . Pro-Tempore Mary
Balestreri took roll. The motion carried and the vote was approved. Senate Chair Alex
Perlman called the candidates back into the room to be sworn in by Judicial Pro-Tempore
Matthew DeSimone .
6. EXECUTIVE UPDATES
Public Relations :
● Trying to build followers on Social Media, New PR request for Bronco News.
Community Development:
● Now have a full staff, October 30th new voting measures forum, November 5th
Philosophy of voting.
Finance :
● Operating reserve accounts for +1000s.
Chief Justice :
● No Updates
Vice President :
● See special order of Business.
President:
● Having another meeting with the presidential search committee. Created a google doc
with all of her current endeavors.
7. COMMITTEE UPDATES
COMM:
● Progress with international students working as TAs. Tabeling with Athletics, working
with campus climate survey.
CUIC :
● Red cup pick up committee mesher with FOC , moving forward with Bronco Posi and
LSB diversity forums.
FOC :
● Red cup pick up committee mesher with CUIC and open to more. Benson facilities are
being improved and they will be introducing an online ordering platform soon.
SAC :
● 2 +1,000s week 7. Want to introduce a bylaw to have RSO present to Senate for
funding at the discretion of SAC .

motion to vote and At-Large Senator Amber Wang second the motion.
