Guest Speaker: Vice Provost for Student Life Jeanne Rosenberger

Senate Chair Alex Perlman invited the Vice Provost for Student Life Jeanne Rosenberger to

present to the Senate. Her presentation is summarized succinctly below:

● The role that students take on when accepting a role in ASG is to speak up on behalf of

others who otherwise would not and help bring ideas to fruition.

● Think about ways in which you can better your experience here at Santa Clara, and seek

out the staff member who can help you accomplish your goals.

● Many past ASG initiatives have shaped our campus to be what it is today.

● Past projects and our current and future are shaping the experience of current students

and those to come.

Senate Chair Alex Perlman thanked Ms. Rosenberger for her presentation and asked if there

were any questions for her.

At-Large Senator Rory Pannkuk: What are some current projects that we could engage with?

Jeanne Rosenberger: There are some current initiatives involving off-campus living and greek

life, on campus programs, and mental health and substance use.

Sophomore Senator Sahil Sagar : Will Benson be re-incorporating a late night aspect?

Jeanne Rosenberger: Yes

Senior Senator Rachel Wiggins : Benson should almost completed by October 15th.

Jeanne Rosenberger: It was a very ambitious project to take on in a 15 week time period. Late

night service and mobile ordering will be the finishing touches.

Senior Senator Rachel Wiggins : With more food stations available and large catering

requests, will Bon Appetit be able to handle serving both students and events. They seem

overwhelmed and unprepared.

Jeanne Rosenberger: It has been a Perfect Storm. We are training chefs with the new

equipment in real time and there are new workers so we hope to see a steady response time in

ordering and receiving food.

Sophomore Senator Nicholas Niehaus : Will Tapingo be the mobile ordering platform?

Jeanne Rosenberger: I believe we will be using another mobile ordering application.

Sophomore Senator Ciara Moezidis : CUIC has been discussing donating meal points as a

potential project, could that be implemented with the kiosks?

Jeanne Rosenberger: I suggest getting in touch with Robyn Reynold to discuss that further.

Hearing no further questions, Senate Chair Alex Perlman thanked Jeanne Rosenberger and

excused her.

6. OLD BUSINESS

Discussion and Vote on New RSOs

Senate Chair Alex Perlman opened the floor to discussion for the New RSOs.

Junior Senator David Warne : I don’t think the Pokemon GO RSO is general enough to be an

RSO; might be a FAD.

Sophomore Senator Robbie Nunes : Although the game may be a fad, I think we should

approve them. If they start requesting large sums of money, then that will pose an issue.

At-Large Senator Rory Pannkuk : We have been discussing putting a cap on the number of

RSOs we approve.

At-Large Senator Sophia Smith : I think this RSO could encourage new students to bond with

one another in a relaxed setting.

Sophomore Senator Kyle Andrews : It seems like they have been successful with their

outreach. I don’t see the purpose of the needing RSO status.

Junior Senator Mika Philip : They wanted the Santa Clara Name so that they could participate in

service days.

Vice President Jahwala Johns: Why are we imposing a cap on the number of RSOs?

Junior Senator David Warne : Due to limited resources, SAC has been asked to choose new

RSOs wisely.

Sophomore Senator Robbie Nunes: If we start capping the number of RSO, shouldn’t we also

weeding out existing RSOs.

Junior Senator David Warne : We are not allowed to do that.
