QUESTIONS
Junior Senator Jack Herstam: Thank you for your presentation. there was an op ed that was critical about how we haven’t been in a tournament
I was disappointed that the op ed did not reach out to myself or Herb. To change the culture that’s what I need from you. The timeline is that we’re going to win some games and we’re going to upset some people sooner rather than later. There are some injuries right now but I’m still hopeful. We’re fighting a battle too with how competitive the tournaments are
Sophomore Senator Jahwala Johns: how is the new slogan going to interact with rough riders
Rough riders is the same group that is really spearheading this rodeo. We want to put hooves in there to make it loud, energetic and interactive
At-Large Senator Austin Gray: how do you bring santa clara into the limelight?
Basketball is an easy fix. Herb is going to help us a lot. We need to win those games and have students come and we’ll go over the top. I think
At-Large Kayla Williams: how do you feel about the fact students don’t stay for the whole game and how do we get them to stay
I want to make it so that they feel like they have to stay for the game. You all have to develop that culture and make them stay. My hope is that we set the stage and you lead the charge
Senior Senator Areany Tolentino: what are the setbacks that you’ve faced so far
I think we’ve had student athletes make mistakes that prevents them from playing and student injuries. That’s what really hurts, when poor decisions are made or when fluke injuries happen.
Senior Senator Trevor MacDonald: I know that the 2 pack 12 games are big for us, are they both going to be during winter break?
The struggle is that the time we have to do it is nov 14-jan 1 but we’re going to try to get it earlier. I’ve been pushing so that we don’t get the short end of the stick
Austin: If the basketball team reaches the full success that you expect do you think the money that is taken from that will be allocated to other teams?
All of our programs budgets have increased
6. SIGNING RESOLUTIONS
Measure B-Jack and Gemi
Response to Casa Italiana Vandalism-Maureen
Support of Healthy Choices Committee-Jack, Areany, Margo
7. NEW BUSINESS
Ad Hoc Fact Finding Committee on the Hut
Goals, members, and leadership
Deliverable: White Paper proposal
Neil: We’ve heard a lot of outreach from the student body about the closure of the hut and we think it would be a good idea to centralize the ideas going around to be a fact finding committee to collect information and report it back to the student body
Questions
Junior Senator Jack Herstam:what’s the timeline
I would say probably over the next month before the holiday break
Senior Senator Trevor MacDonald: who is leading the committee
I am
Junior Senator Jelly Fuentes: do you have specific people in mind?
I was going to do a blast through an email and social media
At-Large Senator Austin Gray: What is the purpose of this committee, it seems very clear to me?
We want to find out what the role of the university can be for this and potentially work with the student body to develop a safe alcohol consumption space on campus
Senate Chair Neil Datar asked for a motion to vote. The motion was made by First-Year Senator Erik Echeona and seconded by Junior Senator Amy Monzon. Pro-Tempore Rachel Wiggins took roll, and the ad hoc committee was approved.
Confirmation of UPC appointees—Bookstore Advisory (David)
First-Year David Warne: I’d like to revamp the student bookstore and to establish a new name for it. I’d like to look at a bigger technology section and have the basic necessities for school closer on the top floor.
Questions
Ahmer: proposed name for the bookstore
not too sure maybe ‘the stable’
Senate Chair Neil Datar asked for a motion to vote. The motion was made by At-Large Senator Ahmer Israr and seconded by Junior Senator Jelly Fuentes. Pro-Tempore Rachel Wiggins took roll, and the appointment was approved.
Carl Guardino—Thank you for collaboration with ASG
With 71.04% of the vote Measure B passed on Tuesday night
Carl: I am so honored to be back with you. I came solely to thank you for your leadership for your value in this effort and for the help you provided us. This was the first college in Santa Clara county that we visited. It was instantaneous that we had the same vision for the future of this valley and this campus as well

Igwebuike--Requested $1,732.61 Recommendation $1,539.94
Salsa Clara--Requested $2,924.90 Recommendation $1,539.94
Junior Senator Jack Herstam: How are we looking at our budget for the entire year?
For the fall we’re under
DISCUSSION
Helen: it terms of Broncos for Life, I didn’t think it would benefit Santa Clara University. I don’t think they should receive funding
Ahmer: this event a lot of colleges go as groups. they aren’t going as individuals they’re going as a group to a conference and march
Tom: I think sending 12 students is a lot
Lauren: I was going to compare it to other clubs and how they have a plan to come back and have presentations and bring it back and I don’t see what they’re bringing back to the campus
Austin:
David: to speak to the issue about if they’re adding to the issues, it’s tough to compare to the other ones because they aren’t going anywhere. is this similar to other off campus trips funding
Karsten: this is similar to other requests and we’ve given similar amounts
Ahmer: obviously broncos for life is kind of a more political thing and I want to encourage everyone to think that they are an RSO and we should put political beliefs aside
Erik: I agree that we maybe we shouldn’t overanalyze it because of the political climate
David: should we fund APSU this much when they haven’t had their mandatory culture show
Kayla: for the MCC there are 9 parts on a checklist and this marks one of them. additionally other mcc clubs sell food their too and benefit from the event
Vote in requests excluding Broncos for Life
Senate Chair Neil Datar asked for a motion to white ballot. The motion was made by First-Year Senator Erik Echeona and seconded by First-Year Senator Erik Echeona. Senate Chair Neil Datar asked for a motion to vote. The motion was made by Sophomore Senator Jahwala Johns and seconded by First-Year Senator Payton Swanson. Pro-Tempore Rachel Wiggins took roll, and the requests were approved.
Broncos for Life Discussion:
Ahmer:I think that if this was a pro choice conference we wouldn’t have the same amount of discussion and we need to respect these people’s beliefs
Maureen: I have a personal issue with this topic and if that’s too political I will abstain but I strongly don’t believe in this
Kayla: My vote is no because I’ve seen them do very little. They don’t seem very active on our campus
David: I think on the one hand it’s important because this is an existential issue for broncos for life and this is a catholic school so they are professing catholic values
Ahmer: they have been to the march in san francisco but they are different and I don’t think it’s fair to judge them from the same standard
Sam: is this the first time they’ve requested something like this
Austin: where is the line with political topics
Phillip: I think we need to step back and realize we represent everyone
Ahmer: They do meet bi-weekly and are working on outreach as well and this program would teach them how to approach this topic on a college campus
Karsten: I would just like to remind people that we are voting on if a club should receive funding on attending an event
Voting on Broncos for Life request
Senate Chair Neil Datar asked for a motion to vote. The motion was made by First-Year Senator Erik Echeona and seconded by Sophomore Senator Victoria Linares. Pro-Tempore Rachel Wiggins took roll, and the request was approved.
